Welcome to my Kickstarter fundraising project:
First I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation for your interest in this project. I am very proud to be working with Kickstarter to crowd fund this project. By using this avenue to fund this project, it will ultimately enable me to share the completed movie online for free. I am not looking to get rich or famous here. I simply would like to explore what constitutes ”artistic expression” here in Lancaster County, and share our great and diverse art with the world.
What this project is about:
I am looking to film and distribute a full-length documentary exploring the rich diversity of art from the lancaster County area. The city of Lancaster has a thriving downtown art scene, but what about the rest of the county? Due to the influence of the farming communities, particularly the Amish and Mennonite Communities, we have a broad range of artistic expression here in Lancaster County. The plain communities embrace a variety of old world techniques that have been passed down through generations. Some of these artistic styles include:
- Quilting
- Fiber Arts
- Wood working
- Hex signs
- and so much more!

So what is Kickstarter?
I realize that many of you may have never heard of Kickstarter, it is a wonderful online platform for creative people seeking funding for creative projects (like this one). You can view my project here.
I have set a goal of raising $15,000 to help with the purchase of recording equipment, promotional materials, and a few other things. Now it is up to me to raise that money from people like you ,who are interested in being a part of this wonderful project. You will receive rewards for your donation, but because I plan to distribute the movie for free, you will be providing the world with a great documentary for free. It is also a great chance for native Lancastrians to share our little piece of the world with other who may never get to experience it again, or for the first time.
I have a set deadline of Wednesday June 14, 2012 at 12:41am (40 days), in which to reach my goal. Important note: If I am unsucessful in reaching my goal by that deadline I will not receive any money, and you will not be charged. That makes this a PBS style project made with the support of “viewers like you”, but with an all or nothing approach. This will allow me to focus on the film itself, and not the needs of investment bankers. It will also provide you with the opportunity to be a part of this special project, that we can share with the world at large. As I stated above, you also get something in return.
I would like to quickly point out that the payments are handled through Amazon’s Flexible Payments Service, so you know you’re donations will be acquired in a secure manner.
What you get in return:
In return for your donation I have established a set of rewards for your efforts. Take a look at my project page and you’ll see the right column is filled with different rewards based on the amount you donate.
In addition to the rewards, I will be making videos, and posts, to keep you informed about the project and just what I’m up to. You can also keep track of the project and share it with your friends through our various social network profiles below:
In closing:
I would like to thank you again for taking the time to check out my Kickstarter Project. I hope that you will be able to donate, and help make my vision a reality. I really need your help, and I am looking forward to entertaining you and exploring some of the wonderful art that Lancaster County has to offer.
The value of your donation won’t stop at this documentary though. Once I have finished this documentary I will be able to film more documentaries, and even more episodes of the Amish Road Show. If you are unable to help monitarily, please consider sharing this project with all your friends in case it might be something that interests them. Thanks!
Take care,

- Seth Dochter
